KOCHI: The Alumni Society of AOTS Kerala (ASA Kerala) award function for the best ‘Young Engineering Talents’ of the year and the presentation of winning projects will be held at the Nippon Kerala Centre, Kinfra Hi-tech Park, here on Sunday. The awards will be presented by Kochouseph Chittilapilly, managing director,V-Guard Industries. The award, instituted by Japan-based NGO - ASA, is given for the best three innovative ideas that make way for a better future, selected from the projects submitted by hundreds of students from various engineering colleges across Kerala as a part of their course.The first prize winner will be given a cash award of Rs 1 lakh, while the second and third place winners will get Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively. The prize money has been sponsored by the power control systems manufacturer Supra Group of Companies, ASA, and GR Tech Plumbing Engineers.The best 20 projects will be presented at the Nippon Kerala Centre on the same day. The students will also be given an opportunity to interact with eminent industrialists and business personalities who have been invited to see and review the projects. The project exhibition will be open to the public between 9.30 am to 11 am. and 2 pm to 4 pm. The exhibition will showcase exceptional engineering ideas that range from a technology that can control the speed of buses and lorries with the help of GSM to a 3G-based technology that can drive cars without drivers.ASA Kerala, with the support of the Government of Kerala, aims to introduce the excellence and efficiency of Japanese manufacturing systems to managers and workers in the state and make Kerala an ‘Investment-friendly Destination.’
