Assam: Cops arrest six ULFA linkmen
Six ULFA linkmen were arrested from Dibrugarh district in Assam on Wednesday.

New Delhi: Six ULFA linkmen were arrested from Dibrugarh district in Assam on Wednesday from Ahomiyagaon, Kopouhuagaon and Joypur Tea Estate in the district.

The arrested linkmen have been identified as Raju Gogoi, Hiranath Phukan, Junti Phukan, Rakesh Saha, Sanjit Kamalapuri and Munna Thakur.

In what can be termed as a rampage, ULFA attacked non-Assamese people in the state, the first major series of attacks by the ULFA in the last one year in the state.

Twenty-five non-Assamese were killed by the insurgent outfit in Tinsukia and Dibrugarh districts in two separate attacks, 11 others were injured. The bery next day ULFA militants killed 23 Bihari and Bengali brick-kiln workers and injured five others in Tinsukia's Saadiya area.

The attacks are being seen as an effort at ethnic cleansing of the state against non-Assamese population.

The police are claiming the arrest of the six linkmen as a major breakthrough.
