CUTTACK: The former Inspector in charge of Udit Nagar police station, Rourkela, SN Pujari who is in the centre of the storm over the alleged assault on Judicial Magistrate First Class Arun Kumar Patnaik in the steel city in April this year, will be examined by Justice AS Naidu Commission on November 7. The Commission which is inquiring into the incident of police-magistrate scuffle, on Sunday wound up its sittings at Cuttack and fixed the next date to November 7. Into its ninth day of holding its sittings here, Justice Naidu on Sunday examined two witnesses - former IIC of Sector 15 police station at Rourkela Mihir Kumar Panda and the then ASI of Uditnagar PS Buddhadev Naik. Earlier, the Commission had examined eight persons Sahil, Khan, Mehfuj Alam, Jossef Tigga, Sadananda Pani, Ashok Bisoi, Banamali Beg, Dhirendra Kumar Sahoo, Prashanta Kumar Mohanty, who had been linked to the incident in some capacity or the other and filed affidavits. Among the witnesses Sahil Khan and Mehfuj Alam stated in their affidavits that the JMFC AK Patnaik was present in the police station on the night of April 2 and was abusing the police officials inside the PS. The duo had been brought to the police station for interrogation in connection with a criminal case. The other witnesses too stated on similar lines that the magistrate had used abusive language directed at the police. Their statements, however, were laced with discrepancies and contradictions. Additional government advocates Bikram Nayak and V Narsingh appeared for the State Government, BP Tripathy for the Rourkela Bar Association, PK Nayak for IIC Pujari and SC Mohapatra and AN Das for Arun Kumar Patnaik and cross-examined the witnesses. Pursuant to the public notice issued by the Commission, 47 affidavits have been filed.
