MS Dhoni is well and truly retired from international cricket, but if you are following IPL 2024 and the way the great man is teasing his fans with his short cameos, deep down you would probably want to see MSD don the Indian colours one more time. And with the 2024 T20 World Cup around the corner (in June) in the USA and the West Indies, could we see the impossible happening? Well, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma does want to try and convince Dhoni, but he probably knows the answer.
Speaking about the T20 World Cup and team selection while appearing on the Club Prairie Fire podcast featuring Adam Gilchrist and Michael Vaughan, Sharma said it would be hard to convince Dhoni to come to the West Indies, but added that he will be in the USA.

“It’ll be hard to convince MSD for sure to come to West Indies, I guess. Uh, he’s sick and tired. He’s coming to US, though, to do something else. He’s into golf now, so he’s coming to play golf, I guess," said Sharma when Gilchrist floated the idea of looking at a couple of veterans in MSD and Dinesh Karthik for the T20 World Cup.
Sharma lauded Dhoni’s 4-ball 20-run effort against Mumbai Indians on Sunday saying that made the difference in the match. CSK beat MI by 20 runs in that game.

“He [Dhoni] came to play four balls, made a huge impact, got those 20-22 runs and that was eventually the difference in the end," said Sharma
On Karthik’s possibility of making it to the squad, Sharma made an interesting comment. It was only last week Sharma was seen teasing Karthik about the T20 World Cup spot when Mumbai Indians took on Royal Challengers Bengaluru. A few days later, DK’s banger of an innings against SRH in which he scored 85 off just 35 deliveries added fuel to the whole debate and Sharma reckoned it might be easier to convince the wicketkeeper-batter to play the T20 World Cup than Dhoni.

“Quite impressed, you know, especially with Dinesh, the way he batted a couple of nights back," said Sharma before adding, “Yeah, DK will be easy to convince, I guess".
