HYDERABAD: Several ministers and officers are in jitters in the wake of Thursday’s CBI raids on premises belonging to Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, APIIC former managing director B P Acharya, and APIIC former advisor K Parthsarathy Rao.Though none of them will admit it, the buzz at Secretariat is that they are worried how deep the CBI probe will go and whether their names would be dragged into the controversy.Senior officers who were at the helm of affairs in the Y S Rajasekhara Reddy regime are worried that their signatures on relevant files might excite the CBI into asking searching questions. As news of the raids on B P Acharya’s house broke Thursday morning, bureaucratic telephones buzzed with anxious calls. “Officials had to oblige their political bosses. They could not have said no to the chief minister. Becuase it is their signature on the documents, the CBI is likely to hold them responsible,” said a senior official.Several ministers have started distancing themselves from the decisions taken by their department during the Rajasekhara Reddy regime. One minister who held a crucial portfolio then told Express that the entire show was run by the former chief minister himself. Decisions were taken without his involvement. “For instance, the revenue department is responsible for allotment of land and its alienation to APIIC. But how can the revenue department be held responsible if the corporation gifts it to a companY,” he asked.Finance minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy put up a brave face, stating that he was ready to face a CBI inquiry. The ministers had nothing to hide and were not responsible for decisions taken without their knowledge. “We have already welcomed the CBI investigation,” he said.
