Attack on DYSP Office: CPM man held

The police on Monday arrested CPM Thalassery area committee member M C Pavithran in connection with the case pertaining to attack on the Thalassery DYSP Office during the CPM-sponsored hartal on August 2 in protest against the arrest of P Jayarajan.

Pavithran was arrested on charges of Section 307 (Attempt to Murder), Prevention of Destruction of Public Property Act and Section 141 (Unlawful Assembly).

Police said CPM activists under the leadership of Pavithran led a protest march towards the Thalassery DYSP office following the arrest of Jayarajan.

The march turned violent and 13 policemen were injured in the attack.
