Australia pitches for boosting trade with India
The Australian Trade Commission presented business and investment opportunities for Indian businesses at a seminar in Jaipur.

Jaipur: Australia on Saturday called for boosting bilateral trade with India, saying that business ties can be strengthened in a host of areas such as infrastructure, construction and skills development.

The Australian Trade Commission presented business and investment opportunities for Indian businesses at a seminar in Jaipur, 'Doing Business and Investing with Australia'.

It is Australian Government s initiative to strengthen and broaden commercial engagement with India and enhance the awareness of Australian industry capability among the Indian business community.

The seminar provided an overview of the Australia-India trade and investment relationship and the business and investment opportunities between Australia and India, a release said.

It highlighted Australian expertise in mining, infrastructure, building, construction, urban infrastructure, as well as skills based training and education.

It also focused on the value addition and expertise of Australian companies to Indian businesses.

On Wednesday, Australian Trade Commissioner Patrick Kearins had said that trade with India is poised to reach AUD 40 billion in the next three years.

"India is Australia's fourth largest trading partner. The growth in two-way trade reached $22 billion (Rs1.1 lakh crore) in 2010-11, and is expected to reach $40 billion in the next three years," Kearins said.

Besides, he added, "The agreement for closer economic cooperation with India has reached the third round of negotiations which is somewhat like a Free Trade Agreement (FTA)."
