Twelve backward class associations have appealed to all political parties in the state to allot 50 percent tickets to them in coming Parliament and Assembly elections in proportion to their population.
Leaders of the 12 BC associations, who met here on Saturday, demanded introduction of a bill in Parliament on providing 50 per cent reservation for BCs in the legislature and to put the pressure in this regard on the Union government. They also decided to lay siege to Parliament on August 8.
The BC leaders also urged the political parties to come out with their respective BC Declarations on employment, education, financial and political development of the backward classes.
AP Backward Classes Welfare Association president R Krishnaiah said they would support whichever party allotted the maximum number of tickets to the community and also teach a lesson to those parties which treated BCs in the allotment of tickets. As many as 2,700 BC sub-castes had no representation in the legislature, he said.
Krishnaiah also demanded 50 percent share to BCs in the nominated government posts, reservation to BCs in the judiciary and extension of the SC/ST Atrocity Act to BCs who were facing oppression from upper caste people.
J.Srinivas Gowd, G.Krishna, R.Ramesh, Ramkoti, G.Mallesh Yadav, S. Durgaiah Gowd, Ch.Mallesh Yadav, C.Rajender Mudiraj, K.Balraj, N. Venkatesh, M.Asok Gowd and others attended the meeting.
