Bergisch Gladbach: Any time David Beckham scores, lots of men and women do to.

His goal against Argentina at the 2002 World Cup led to a spike in pregnancies according to research carried out by a home pregnancy manufacturer.

After contacting midwives at the Royal Free Hospital in London, First Response found big wins at the World Cup trigger conception.

"Our data does show a rise in birth rates in early April 2003 which when you track back is nine months after the success against Argentina on June 7, 2002," Amanda Mansfield, a consultant midwife said.

In a separate survey of 1,000 women, soccer games came in third as the most popular time for conception, sandwiched between birthdays and moving house.
