A Bankura-based painter Amitayu Das is capturing the headlines for his paintings. According to Local 18 Bengal, Amitayu can curate paintings by holding the paintbrush in his mouth. He holds the colour palette with his other hand and quickly sketches out a remarkable painting of anyone. The Local 18 video shows him sketching his mother’s face and famous poet and writer Rabindranath Tagore’s face as well in just 5 minutes. He curated these artworks by holding the brush in his mouth. It is not like Amitayu cannot paint with his hands, but he has been doing it alternatively for quite some time. Not only his mouth, he also knows how to create artwork with his feet. Despite not using his hands, Amitayu doesn’t lose his grip on the art and creates a brilliant art piece. For the past month, he has been painting only portraits.

Amitayu started painting at a very young age and learned first lessons in this art from his father. The teachings by his father boosted the Bankura man’s passion for painting and he decided to pursue a full-fledged course in it. He enrolled for post-graduation in this course from an art college located in the Burdwan. After completing the course, he is working as a teacher in a private children’s school in Bankura. In addition to that, Amitayu is also managing his father’s drawing school.

As of now, Amitayu has been practising art for 25-26 years now. He said, “What money I earned from painting is not a big deal. People are giving love, people are accepting my pictures, that’s the biggest thing I owe.”

Amitayu is currently creating an art project on rickshaw pullers because rickshaws are gradually becoming out of service now. In the era of modern technology, common people do not want to travel by rickshaws because they are time-consuming. This has greatly affected Amitayu and he wishes to emphasise their importance despite the changing times as well. This is the reason the Bankura-based artist is creating his next art project on them. He wants that through his pictures, a message regarding their conservation can reach the common people.
