KOZHIKODE: The appointments of chairmen to the Boards and Corporations allotted to the party have kicked up a fresh row in the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML). A section of the party workers, especially the younger generation, has come out against the party leadership against appointing former ministers and MLAs as the new chairmen and the relaxation in the ‘One-man, One-post’ norm implemented by the party before the Assembly elections. After the sharing in the UDF, the party bagged 17 Boards and Corporations. The newly-announced list of chairmen include former education minister and MLA Nalakathu Soopy and former minister and MLA C T Ahmed Ali. While Soopy has been appointed as the chairman of Handicrafts Development Corporation, Ahmed Ali is the new chairman of Small Scale Industries Development Corporation (SIDCO). Muslim League workers allege that the party leadership has totally ignored the younger generation and preference is given to leaders who have been receiving pensions and other benefits from the government. While announcing the implementation of ‘One-man, One post’ norm, Muslim League general secretaries E T Mohammed Basheer and K P A Majeed have said the policy would be applicable for the appointments in Boards and Corporations. However, the party leadership has now relaxed the norms and appointed IUML state secretary M C Mayin Haji as the new chairman of the Kerala State Industrial Enterprises (KSIE). It is reliably learnt that the oppressed faction has decided to express its strong protest in the issue at the upcoming party secretariat meeting. Besides, several leaders have already conveyed their discontent to party supremo Panakad Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal.IUML state general secretary K P A Majeed, when contacted, made it clear that the ‘one-man, one-post’ norm was applicable only for elected posts. “As per the norms, party leaders should not be in the charge of two elected posts at a time. However, they can take the responsibility of an elected post and a nominated post simultaneously. Chairmen of Boards and Corporations are nominated posts and hence party state secretary and office-bearers of party district leadership have been appointed for the same,” Majeed maintained.IUML Kannur district president V K Abdul Khader Moulavi, Palakkad district president C A M A Kareem and Thrissur district president K S Hamza have been appointed as chairmen of Textiles Corporation, Forest Industries Travancore, Aluva and Steel and Industrial Forgings Limited. U C Raman is the new chairman of Handloom Development Corporation (Handveev) whereas the party Palakkad district general secretary Kalathil Abdulla has been appointed the chairman of Handicapped Development Corporation. U A Latheef, Idukki district president T M Salim and Thiruvananthapuram district general secretary Bheemapally Rasheed are the new chairmen of Kerala State Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Limited, Steel Industries and Kerala Electrical and Allied Engineer Company Limited. However, the party leadership is yet to give a post to Vanitha League, women’s wing of the IUML. Vanitha League state president Kamarunnisa Anwar said they were hopeful of getting due consideration in Boards and Corporations as promised by the party leadership during the Assemly elections.
