KOCHI: ‘The Mullaperiyar issue is ours, owned by none, shared and cared by all...for this, we are waiting for the support of fellow men and women, the so called Aam Aadmi’. This was the message conveyed by the youths who got together at Marine Drive on bikes on Saturday. For these youngsters, the message is not political nor is backed by any political entity. It is rather the voice of the people who feel that it is time to act upon the issue which has been talked on for years.“We are not here to create awareness among Malayalis who were made aware of the dangers of the dam when an earthquake sent tremors during the late 1970s. We are here asking them to wake up and act,” Razaak, one of the bikers, said.According to the group, who got linked up through Facebook, immediate and urgent action was the need of the hour and instead of debating, the initiative has to be from the part of the governments and its people. The bike rally started from Marine Drive and passed through Ravipuram, Vytilla, Palarivattom, Edappally and Kaloor before returning back to Marine Drive. Placards conveying the urgency of the matter were also displayed. Besides, a ‘Save Keralite,’ campaign by the youths is slowly receiving active support on Facebook. The youths said the page on Facebook was a venue for a responsible Indian to express her or his concern and thoughts on the crisis.
