New Delhi: Bina Ramani , the key witness in the Jessica Lal murder case, on Wednesday expressed her sympathy with the family of Manu Sharma. He was given life imprisonment by Delhi High Court on Wednesday.
"People in Manu Sharma's house must be grieving. I am a mother too, but I want to say that God is watching," she said.
Reacting to the judgment, her daughter Malini Ramani said: "It's over now. I am happy for Sabrina and I am sure she must be feeling relieved now."
Referring to the involvement of influential people in the murder, she said: "I hope the people with power will think twice before doing anything like this".
The National Commission for Women (NCW) also hailed the judgement and said that it would help to instill confidence in women about getting justice.
"Jessica's mother had been coming to the Commission. We are happy that Jessica's family has got justice," NCW Chairperson Girija Vyas said.
She added that the case, in which the Delhi High Court held day-to-day hearings, also proved the need for such cases of crime against women to be heard in fast track courts.
"We thank the media and the judiciary in ensuring that justice has been done in this case," she said.
