New Delhi: The BJP has gone on the offensive and told the Election Commission it is “improper” to implicate the party’s leaders for a controversial CD.
The Election Commission on Friday ordered that a police complaint be filed against BJP President and senior UP leader Lalji Tandon for the CD which denigrates Muslims and was supposed to be used in the UP elections.
The party, after apologising for the CD and sacking its state spokesperson Manoj Mishra, has now decided that it now must not appear embarrassed.
"The EC's action against Singh in the CD case is highly objectionable. We have explained the circumstances behind the issue. It is improper to implicate our party's top leadership on a state level issue," BJP Vice President Venkaiah Naidu told PTI in Varanasi.
Naidu said the somebody had "misguided" the Commission, but refused to comment who.
"We have already said the CD was not part of the official campaign material and accordingly submitted reply to the show cause notices issued to the party by the EC.
"Therefore, we urge the Commission to withdraw its directives on the basis of which the state election commission officials had yesterday filed the FIR," he said.
Naidu urged the EC to take appropriate actions against those involved in the controversial CD issue only after thoroughly investigating the matter and after finding out the truth in the entire episode.
Referring to the opposition parties' demand seeking de-recognition of the BJP, "The parties like Jan Morcha, Congress, the SP and the BSP should not not try to preach us lessons on value-based politics and political morality."
