KOPPAL: Referring to former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa’s discordant note against the BJP leadership in replacing him with D V Sadananda Gowda, the Congress predicted a split in the party after the Koppal bypolls.Congress leaders Veeranna Mattikatti, N S Boseraj and Basavaraj Rayareddy claimed here on Thursday that a split in the BJP government and party was imminent after the byelection to Koppal assembly constituency. They opined that people are disillusioned with the irregularities of the BJP government and, hence, would give a verdict in favour of the Congress in the bypoll. The BJP government continues to have a minister with criminal offences such as C P Yogeshwar, they charged. Former CM Yeddyurappa would alone face 79 cases of corruption and irregularities, they said, claiming to be in possession of relevant records.Under the garb of development, the BJP government has taken a Rs 36,000 crore loan in the past three years and thereby foisted a heavy burden on tax payers, they said. The Congress has taken the bypoll seriously and set up a KPCC camp office at Koppal.A host of leaders including AICC general secretary in-charge of Karnataka Madhusudan Mistry, Siddaramaiah and KPCC chief Dr G Parameshwar would campaign across the constituency from Friday. They maintained that the BJP could be relegated to the third position with JD(S) finishing second.
