Bhopal: Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati on Friday said that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party could start construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya just before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections to garner votes.
Marking the commencement of BSP poll campaign for 2018 assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, former UP Chief Minister, while addressing a rally at the historical Lal Parade ground in Bhopal, claimed that BJP would seek refuge in Hindutva to shield faults of its government.
As part of the strategy, the BJP could start working on Ram Temple in Ayodhya just ahead of 2019 elections for garnering Hindu votes. “Besides this, the party could also resort to different gimmicks on the pretext of nationalism to attract support,” cautioned Mayawati.
She lambasted BJP, saying that since the party gained power in states and the Centre, atrocities on Dalits, Muslims, other minorities, farmers, and labourers have grown increasingly. “When I tried to raise the issue of Dalit atrocities in Rajya Sabha, I was not allowed to speak as BJP MPs came to the well of the House and started raising slogans,” she said.
She also slammed BJP at the Centre saying it was using central agencies, including CBI, Income Tax, and Enforcement Directorate, against political opponents to its "Vipaksha-mukt Bharat".
Mayawati said that benefits extended to SC/ST and other backward classes were not because of devi-devta but because of Dalit messiah Baba Sahab Ambedkar. She proclaimed that even if a Ram temple is built in Ayodhya or elsewhere, it won't end poverty or bring employment. "It will just burn holes in their pockets," she said.
The BSP leader hit out the BJP for failing to curb farmer suicides MP and Chhattisgarh, Mayawati added that when BSP ruled Uttar Pradesh, no such incident occurred. She also highlighted her government’s achievements in maintaining the law and order, equality and Dalit welfare.
The former UP Chief Minister claimed that both BJP and Congress ridiculed BSP after party’s formation in the 1980s and joined hands to destroy the party when BSP government was formed in 2007. She also accused BJP of tampering with EVMs in 2014 general elections and in 2017 UP assembly polls, adding that tampering reports are surfacing during UP local body elections as well.
She urged party workers to connect Dalits with the BSP in MP and CG by making them aware of good governance the party established during its rule in UP. The party enjoys scattered support base in MP and has four MLAs.
