New Delhi: The Bangalore city police is gearing up to trap traffic rules violators the high-tech way.
"All Sub-Inspectors of Police, Inspectors and Assistant Commissioners of Police in traffic wing would be supplied with handheld computers in about three months," PTI quoted Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) M N Reddy as saying.
The police personnel in Bangalore will soon be equipped with hand-held computers to identify habitual offenders. The computers would enable policemen to obtain data on all those who had been served notices.
And that's not all, they would also be able to track down whether the offenders had complied with the notice or ignored it.
A database of registration details of vehicles and owners would also available on the computers. So, if a vehicle is intercepted, the policeman could simply enter the registration number and obtain the details of the offender.
On an average, about 2,000 to 2,500 notices relating to traffic rules violations are generated daily in the city and only about 25 per cent of them pay fine.
"It is practically impossible for the police to reach out to all the offenders daily to get them and make them cough up fines," PTI quoted Reddy as saying.
