MADURAI: For Alageshwaran, a student of Class V, at Mahaa Nursery and Primary School here, life has not been a bed of roses. His parents are separated and according to him, he is being harassed and taunted by the school management. On Monday, the boy along with his grandmother petitioned the Collector seeking his intervention to help continue his education. The boy, hailing from Paraiyar community, said he was ridiculed in front of other students and remarks where made about his mother by school head Lakshmi. She even asked him why he wanted to study considering the family situation.Babu, a physical education trainer, had been harassing the boy by telling that he would drop him at his mother’s place and advising him not to go to his father. These sort of talks had traumatised the boy and from January he stopped going to school. Now, the boy with the help of his relatives and friends has managed to get admission in a Christian mission school. But, the school needs transfer certificate (TC) from the previous school. When asked for TC, Mahaa school management refused. The boy then went to the school with his maternal aunt and grandmother, but the school said there were pending dues that had to cleared before the issue of TC. They sought `6,680 to be paid, which is over and above the Govindarajan Committee recommendations. Though the family was ready to pay the fee, the school management said that the accountant was not available and suggested they come the next day. With no other go, a case was filed with Pudur Police, who came to the school to hold talks. Finally, the school issued the TC, but mentioned that he had discontinued his education.
