New Delhi: Ferrari go into the Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos on Octber 22 with only the faintest possibility of winning back the driver's title.
Michael Schumacher must win the final GP of the season and hope that Fernando Alonso fails to get a point.
But the constructors' title is still wide open with Ferrari trailing Renault by just nine points.
Ferrari No 2 driver Felipe Massa will have an important part to play in the Brazilian Grand Prix.
In the run-up to the final race of the season his senior driver, Michael Schumacher, trails Fernando Alonso by 10 points and only a win would see the German head into retirement as the world champion for the eighth time.
However, Ferrari have a more realistic chance in the constructors’ championship as they trail Renault by just nine points and this is where Massa comes in.
It will be Massa's first Interlagos appearance as a Ferrari driver, at the circuit just south of Sao Paulo, the city of his birth.
"I think Brazil is a very special place for me. It's my home Grand Prix and it's always a big pleasure to come there and see the whole atmosphere and I hope the people with the Brazilian flag and their Ferrari colours in my first year as a Ferrari driver, I think it's going to be an amazing race for me and fantastic to see the people making a big support for me," Felipe Massa says.
Perhaps Massa will concentrate on frustrating the Renaults in Sunday's race in an effort to win a 15th constructors' title for Ferrari. After all, he will still be with the team next season, while Schumacher will be watching it on television.
