Brisk polling was reported from all districts in the Malabar region including Kozhikode district in the first hour of voting, with as many voters were seen standing in queues in the polling stations since Thursday morning, for the parliament election in Kerala.

However, in some booths in Kozhikode district, including in a booth at Malabar Christian Higher Secondary school, polling was delayed because of faulty Electronic Voting Machine.

Polling remained peaceful without any incidents from anywhere in the Malabar region, police said. Socialist Janata (Democratic) Party supremo and Palakkad parliament constituency United Democratic Front (UDF) Candidate M P Veerendrakumar, had cast his franchise at a school in Kalpetta in Wayanad.

In Kannur, CPI(M) State Secretary, Pinarayi Vijayan cast his vote at R C Amala school. In Malappuram, brisk polling was reported in all the booths there.

One of the early to cast franchse was IUML State President Hyderali Shihab thangal, sources said.
