SALEM: The house at Dasanaickenpatti where six members of a family were murdered on August 11 last year once again came into the spotlight on Monday, when the daughter of slain retired inspector Kuppuraj approached police alleging sabotage bid. Vijayalakshmi alleged that she found the lock of a room broken and a cupboard rummaged when she went to the plot to pick coconut. The LPG cylinder was also not in its original spot. This is the third incident involving the house following the murder. On February 10, bushes on the six acre land surrounding the house were set on fire. On July 10, an attempt was made to set the house on fire. While no big damage was reported in the first incident, furniture, refrigerator and other household items got damaged in the second incident. The room where Kuppuraj was murdered was also gutted. Though the house remains open after the second incident, some rooms with household articles remain locked. Repeated incidents in the house have gained significance as it is tied to a major land grab case, in which Suresh Kumar, the nephew of DMK leader Veerapandi S Arumugam, has been implicated. Moreover, it comes at a time when police are aggressively pursuing land grab cases. On information, Mallur Police visited the spot. “No one comes here and there is hardly any reason why the house should be targeted,” they said.According to police sources, Kuppuraj’s daughter-in-law Jayanthi -- the main legal heir to the property -- had approached the district police to remove household articles from the house. But, she was asked to get a court direction in this regard.Vijayalakshmi, whose share in the property is also under contention, had been alleging that the murder of her parents and kin was a result of a land grab attempt involving Suresh Kumar and some DMK men in Salem. Vijayalakshmi joined the AIADMK before elections and even campaigned against Veerapandi Arumugam in Sankagiri constituency. The CB-CID, which investigated the murder case, said the fire incident had no implication on their investigation as all incriminating documents and evidences were recovered from the house before the chargesheet was filed in the court. However, repeated attempts on the house could be seen as an indirect threat, especially at a time when the case is nearing trial. “We have asked the district police to investigate the matter thoroughly,” said the CB-CID source.
