BANGALORE: Due to administrative reasons, the flagship programme of Bangalore University, four-year integrated Bachelor of Science (BS) course, will be conducted at the Central College instead of Jnanabharthi campus.Speaking at the 125 birth anniversary celebrations of well-known mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, Dr N Prabhu Dev, Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University, said there were only two faculty members to conduct classes. The four-year integrated course, which was started two years ago, is said to be the brain child of Prabhu Dev.Presently, 50 students have taken up the course. The move comes at a time when the VC has an impasse with the BU non-teaching staff.“The programme will be under my supervision, along with the Department of Mathematics on Central College campus.I will have greater control as I am based at the Central College currently,” the VC said.A BU staff said it was easier to invite guest lecturers to Central College and this would strengthen the teaching methods.Mrinal K Ghosh, Professor Department of Mathematics, IISc, said, “Genius is a free creation of nature and one cannot be nurtured in universities to become genius.A genius is born, not created or suppressed, and Ramanujan is one of those.”
