RAMANATHAPURAM: The Q Branch sleuths on Monday arrested a man at the new bus stand here and seized one-and-a-half kg of heroin from him.The police said a team, led by Inspectors Ganesan and Kennedy and Constable Narayanan, conducted a surprise raid in the bus stand area based on a tip-off. On spotting Pusba Dhanraj of Ariyankundu -- he was waiting in the bus stand carrying a bag -- the police team surrounded him and seized heroin worth Rs 1.5 crore in the international market. Interrogation revealed that Dhanraj was asked by Guna alias Annan of Mannar district in Sri Lanka to hand over the heroin to a person at Dhanuskodi. He was promised Rs 50,000 for the service. As directed, Dhanraj was waiting to board a bus to reach Rameswaram when he was arrested. His plan was to go to Dhanuskodi from Rameswaram. Dhanraj was arrested for smuggling ganja and tobacco to Sri Lanka on an earlier occasion also.
