Father of Dr Chetan Patil, who was killed during communal clash here, said he was shocked to hear that his son was stabbed to death.
Appasaheb told Express that though he and his wife used to speak to their son everyday he does not know why Chetan came down to Belgaum from Bagalkot.
Chetan did not call up his parents on Sunday, he said.
However, it is said that Chetan had called up his professor on Sunday to inform him that he would attend classes only on Tuesday as he was going to Belgaum.
Chetan, who was the only son of Appasaheb, had passed his MBBS from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Belgaum, and had gone to Bagalkot for postgraduate programme.
He had also worked with Bangalore Institute of Management Science (BIMS) on contract basis for a while.
Chetan was the nephew of former minister Mallarigouda Patil.
Chetan’s father was a businessman, who also owned a film theatre ‘Kedar’ at Gadhinglaj, a border town of Maharashtra.
According to reports the miscreants stole cash and not Chetan’s phone.
Police are checking calls and SMS details as part of the probe.
After conducting the postmortem the police had sent the body to Sankeshwar police station.
Later the body was again brought to Belgaum and was handed over to the parents.
