Diaz received hefty compensation from an US tabloid, which claimed that she was having an affair with a married TV producer.

Washington: Actress Cameron Diaz has received a hefty compensation as damages from an US tabloid, which claimed that she was having an affair with a married TV producer, while she was in a relationship with singer Justin Timberlake, in 2005.

National Enquirer’s website had flashed the story under the title ‘Cameron Caught Cheating’, and her photographs with MTV producer Shane Nickerson and said that she was facing a good amount of questioning from Timberlake.

Diaz, sued the site for the report at London's high court and her counsel said that the tabloid has accepted that the photographs did not show her in any passionate moment with the producer, and that it only gave a goodbye hug to her friend.

"The National Enquirer now accepts that the photographs do not show Ms Diaz and Mr Nickerson kissing or in a passionate clinch, accepts that the relevant incident involved no more than Ms Diaz giving a friend a goodbye hug and that any suggestion of a romantic involvement is entirely untrue and without substance," Contactmusic quoted her counsel, as telling the court.

The magazine has since expressed regret for the report, and the distress it has caused to those concerned.
