Cariappas statue needs more security

MADIKERI: Air Marshal K C Cariappa PVSM, VM (rtd) said that the statue of his late father Field Marshal K M Cariappa needs more protection and lighting arrangements instead of deploying police.Speaking to Express on Wednesday, he said though the statue is found everywhere in the country, no where such incidents took place.He said that since Field Marshal K M Cariappa is considered as the Father of Indian Army, it’s more painful to him.The statue was installed in Madikeri 16 years ago, but nothing has happened so far and this is the work of those under the influence of alcohol or mentally imbalanced persons, he added.He suggested that there should be fencing around the statue.Also, lighting the area will keep it protected and will keep the sanctity of the statue too, he opined.DESECRATION OF STATUE FLAYEDMYSORE: Kannada Chalavali Kendra Samiti president MugurnNanjundaswamy has condemned the desecration of the statue of Field Marshal Cariappa in Madikeri by miscreants.He said that Caripappa’s role as freedom fighter and in armed services should be remembered and respected by one and all. He said that miscreants who tied a shoe to the statue, brought disgrace to people and the society.He said that Cariappa is not restricted to Kodagu alone and should be respected by the nation for his yeomen service.
