KOCHI: A two-day leadership conference of the Catholic laity being organised by the KCBC Laity Commission, Kerala Catholic Federation and the Kerala Social Service Forum will be held on Friday and Saturday. Former Minister V M Sudheeran will inaugurate the conference on Friday at the Pastoral Orientation Centre (POC). KCBC Laity Commission chairman Bishop Varghese Chakkalakkal will preside over the function. Union Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies K V Thomas will be honoured by Laity Commission vice-chairman Joseph Mar Thomas. Former MP Sebastian Paul, Antony Ambat, V C Sebastian, Joy Gothuruth and Fr Joy Nirappel will present papers. ‘Catholic laymen in the socio-political fields of Kerala’ will be the theme of discussion at the conference. “It has come to our notice that the involvement of Catholics in social and political fields of Kerala is diminishing. It is in this wake that the conference is being convened,” said KCBC Laity Commission secretary Jose Vithayathil.
