New Delhi: CBI on Wednesday started inquiry into the mysterious drowning of a 21-year-old man, believed to be the first death linked to the Vyapam scam.

Jitendra Yadav, alleged to be one of the racketeer, had drowned in mysterious circumstances in 2007 at his native place Orchha in Madhya Pradesh, CBI sources said.

They said Yadav was named as suspect in one of the Vyapam related FIR registered by Madhya Pradesh police.

This is the eight preliminary enquiry (PE) registered by the CBI relating to the mysterious deaths allegedly linked to Vyapam scam.

A 40-member CBI contingent headed by Joint Director RP Agarwal, a 1986 batch Assam-Meghalya cadre IPS officer, is probing the Vyapam cases.

A Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice HL Dattu had on July 9 transferred the probe of all Vyapam cases, including the related deaths, to CBI.
