KOCHI: Assistant Solicitor-General P Parameswaran Nair and Director-General of Prosecutions (DGP) T Asaf Ali who represented the Centre and the State respectively, strongly opposed the arguments of Italy in the HC on Thursday. The DGP submitted that the killing of the fishermen was a brutal murder.“The weapons used for the killing had not been seized so far and the police asked the magistrate’s court for extending the police remand of the two marines. The duration of the custody ended on Thursday. The police are whether the marines were on duty when the incident occurred,’’ Asaf said. The ASG requested the court not to issue an interim order till the final investigation is over. The ASG further requested the court to implead Coast Guard as an additional respondent in the case. To which the court responded that the Government of India has already been a party in the proceedings. The HC asked the ASG to advise the Centre to sit with the Italian authorities to find an amicable solution.Admitting the petition, the HC issued notices to the Centre, State and Neendakara CI. The court directed to file counter petitions by Tuesday when the case will again come up for hearing. The Malsya Thozhilali Aikyavedi president Charles George and Doramma, wife of the victim Valentine, filed applications to get impleaded in the case. Charles George sought a directive to constitute a Special Investigation Team consisting of officials of the Indian Navy, Coast Guard and experts from the marine department to conduct a full- fledged investigation.
