THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: K M Chandrasekhar, who relinquished the post of Union Cabinet Secretary two days back, has been appointed as the Vice- Chairman of the State Planning Board. The Cabinet on Wednesday took the decision after Chandrasekhar accepted the request from the UDF Government to join the post. Chandrasekhar is a 1970-Kerala cadre IAS officer and had served as the Union Cabinet Secretary from June 2007 to June2011.He had earlier served as the Union Revenue Secretary and was also the Ambassador to World Trade Organisation in Geneva. Before this, he had served as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce. In Kerala, he had served in several key positions including the Managing Director of Civil Supplies Corporation and as Fisheries Director.Chandrasekhar after graduating from St Stephen’s College in New Delhi, got an MA in History from the University of Delhi and in Management Studies from the University of Leeds.He will be replacing Prabhat Patnaik. The UDF Government is expected to reconstitute the Board soon.Chandrasekhar is expected to take up the new assignment at the earliest and will be given a cabinet rank, the Chief Minister said.
