THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan has flayed the stance of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on the issue of listing of accused in the palmolein case when  Achuthanandan was in power as Chief Minister for five years. He termed  Chandy’s stand on the issue as not befitting Chandy’s stature as Chief Minister. “I haven’t tried to make anyone an accused or otherwise while I was the Chief Minister. Those things are decided by the police, the Vigilance and courts,” Achuthanandan said in a statement.Remaining silent on a moot point raised by Chandy the other day with regard to a book authored by Achuthanandan himself on the palmolein case which didn’t mention Chandy’s name anywhere, the Opposition leader claimed  that he had pointed out Chandy’s role in the deal in the Assembly way back in 1992 itself. The Supreme Court had upheld the FIR filed on the palmolein case in 2000. However, Chandy decided to withdraw the case in 2005.Achuthanandan alleged that Chandy and his team were playing the same hide-and-seek game in the case now also. When the Vigilance court here passed some comments on the role of Chandy in the case, Chandy’s lieutenants had led a verbal onslaught against the judge. “Is Chandy asking why I did not resort to such undemocratic methods while I was CM”,VS asked.
