Charity to host concerts on Gulzar works
A UK charity will organise concerts based on the lyricist’s works raising funds for children's education in India.

London: A series of concerts based on the life and works of noted lyricist Gulzar will be held here next week to raise funds for children's education in India.

The concerts, organised by one of UK's well known Asian charities, Pratham include an audio-visual experience with excerpts from Gulzar's various films including Aandhi, Ijaazat, Kinara, Mausam and Angoor.

It will also feature a number of hit film songs including Mora Gora Ang Lai Le, Tum Pukar Lo, Chappa Chappa Charkha Chale and the recent chartbuster, Kajra Re.

The performance also includes poetry and prose excerpts from his works including Pukhraj and Raavi-paar, and his translation of poems by Kusumagraj in Hindi.

Gulzar will be attending one of the concerts to collect the Lifetime achievement award to be presented to him by Pratham at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in London on October 6.

Pratham has raised millions of dollars since its inception three years ago with various events including its annual ball.

The Pratham India Education Initiative (PIEI) board has members including chairman of Reliance Industries, Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Aditya Birla Group, Kumar Mangalam Birla and chairman of Mahindra and Mahindra, Keshub Mahindra,

Others include NRI steel tycoon, Lakshmi Niwas Mittal, novelist and social campaigner, Rohini Nilekani and chairman of ICICI Bank, N Vaghul
