THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Volley Family Club (VFC), Thiruvananthapuram, an organisation formed by former and current volleyball players and their families and which is affiliated to the Kerala State Volleyball Association, will host an all-Kerala volleyball tournament in both men and women’s categories. The event is slated to be held at Udaya Sports Club Volleyball Floodlight Stadium in Chullimanoor, near Nedumangad, during April 8-15. Major teams in the State, including BPCL Cochin, Cochin Port, Indian Navy, KSEB, Kerala Police, Indian Air Force, Kerala Youth and VFC will compete in the men’s category. In the women’s league, KSEB, Assumption College, Changanassery; SAI, Kollam; Sports Division, Kannur, among others, have confirmed their participation. The tourney is being organised at a remote place like Chullimanoor with a view to promote the game in rural areas so as to spot and groom young talents. The matches will commence at 6.30 pm in the floodlit ground on Sunday. Over 5,000 people are expected to turn up as spectators, said the organisers. During the last four years, VFC has been conducting various tournaments. Financial assistance was also extended to various clubs and schools for promoting the game, apart from providing help for ailing players. An organising committee with A Sampath MP and MLAs Koliyakode Krishnan Nair and Palode Ravi as chief patrons has been formed.
