Cit Journo: The missing lingam
Cit Journo: The missing lingam
Is the shivling in Amarnath this year natural or man-made? Citizen Journalist Ashok Mittal tries to answer the question.

Jalandhar: "We felt we were at God's house but that God was not there."

This is what Ashok Mittal from Jalandhar had to say after his trip to the Amarnath caves this May.

He had gone for a darshan, but came back disappointed. There was no Shiva lingam in the cave.

The idols of Shiva, Karthik and Parvati are all in place at the caves, but the space where the lingam used to rest is completely empty.

"We have been visiting the lingam for the past 25 years. This has never happened before," says a devotee, Satish Vij.

I have been going there regularly since 1996 in the months of April, May and June. The lingam has always been there," says another devotee, Rakesh Agarwal.

This year's Shiva lingam has led to a controversy, with devotees alleging it is man-made.

"It must be created artificially. I am 101 per cent sure that it isn't natural," says Mittal.

These devotees have already distributed this video tape shot by them to several media organisations.

They allege that the Shrine board has kept a man made shiva lingam in the cave and demand that the board should come clean in public.
