CHENNAI: A TASMAC outlet situated in the basement of Golden Enclave on Poonamallee High Road in Kilpauk was ordered to be closed by theMadras High Court on February 7.Justice K Chandru gave the direction while allowing a writ petitionfrom the Golden Enclave Owners Association.The judge observed that the future and safety of children were more important than the TASMAC revenue.By a quixotic interpretation of the Prohibition Act and despite Article 47 wherein the State had undertaken its endeavour to bring about prohibition of the consumption, except for medicinal purpose, of intoxicating drinks and of drugs injurious tohealth, the State was running liquor shops.The judge also directed the government to file its compliance reportof his order, by February 20.
