THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will lay the foundation stone for the International Chavara Cancer Research Institute (ICCRI), planned at Moozhi, Nedumangad, and the Community Living Project at Pappanamcode here on Tuesday. The ceremony will be held at Emmanuel Nagar, opposite Sree Chitra Engineering College at Pappanamcode at 1.30 p.m. Mar Mathew Arackal, bishop of Kanjirappally Syro Malabar diocese and chairman, Laity Commission, will deliver the introductory address. Mar Arcakal is also the patron of the KE Trust which undertakes the projects. The foundation plaque for the Cancer Centre was blessed by Major Archbishop Mar George Alencherry on Christmas Day. The Chief Minister will also make the official announcement of ‘Oncology 2012,’ scheduled to be held here in May, 2012, on the occasion. Finance Minister K M Mani will launch the ‘Healthy Child, Wealthy Nation’ project and Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty will inaugurate the ‘Fight against Cancer’ mission. Former Union Minister O Rajagopal will release the ICCRI journal ‘Cancer Care.’ KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala MLA will initiate the ‘Community Living Project.’ Heads of various church and community denominations, people’s representatives and other dignitaries will attend the function, said K A Abraham, executive secretary of K E Trust.
