The exclusive website for the Chief Minister’s Special Cell, launched by CM J Jayalalithaa on August 11 got off to a good start. Within days of its launch, as many as 4,222 persons have registered themselves.
Of the total number of users, 969 have filed petitions online. These were forwarded to the respective departments for further action, sources said.
As many as 232 persons have hailed the CM’s initiative on the site. Shanmugasundaram from Tirunelveli termed the launch of the website as a revolutionary step to enhance direct contact between the public and the CM. Bharanirajan from Madurai expressed confidence that the new initiative would work efficiently. Lakshmana Perumal from Kanyakumari said it would be very useful for people living in villages.
Sources said since most internet users look up Google for information, the search engine has been requested to show the web address of the CM’s Special Cell on top of other search results, when people key in certain words like ‘grievances, petititons’ along with the term Tamil Nadu. But the process would take some time, they added.
The CM’s Special Cell is further streamlining the process of taking action on petitions received from the public, sources said. There is already a monitoring system in place for petitions received offline. Now, a centralised system involving all government departments is being developed to ensure the quick disposal of the petitions received from the public, the sources added.
The online system would, to a great extent, reduce the burden of handling piles of papers (petitions) and contain the risk of forwarding them to respective departments without missing any of the attachments with the petitions.
