Coal scam: CBI director writes to SC, says charges against him wrong
The SC had directed the CVC to probe files pertaining to 24 coal scam cases in which the CBI has concluded the investigation.

New Delhi: Terming allegations against him as false, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director Ranjit Sinha has filed a secret note in the Supreme Court saying that all cases closed by the CBI may be scrutinised by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC).

This comes even as the apex court on Thursday directed CVC to scrutinise files pertaining to 24 coal scam cases in which the CBI has concluded the investigation. The top court has asked the CVC to file a report on these cases to it.

The SC also asked the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to file a status report by July 7 on the probe done in the scam till June 30.

The CBI, meanwhile, also told the court that it had removed its Joint Director for Economic Offences Wing OP Gehlotra from coal investigations after advocate and activist Prashant Bhushan raised questions about so many closures in the coal investigations.

The CBI told the court that it will not file any closure report in the case.
