CHIDAMBARAM: Students and staff of Muthiah Polytechnic College staged a sit-in protest against their vice-principal at Annamalai Nagar on Thursday.After a holiday was announced, students held a demonstration outside and also pelted stones, damaging doors and windows of college building. Staff said that they were protesting against vice-principal Jayakumar who created problems for them and was also behind the issuance of memos served to two teaching staffs. Staff have demanded that the institution’s authorities limit the power of the vice-principal. They also demanded that appointment for the post of vice-principal be made on a rotation basis.Extending their support, students also participated in the protest.  Police inspectors Arockiyaraj and Tamizhmaran rushed to the spot and pacified the students. Protestors told the police that Jayakumar has been misusing his power and creating problems for students and staff.The protest was withdrawn after police assured the protesting staff and students that necessary action would be taken.
