Community clubs stronger than corporate clubs

CHENNAI: Members of community clubs work with great passion and take up more ownership which is the reason why community clubs are stronger than corporate clubs, said Nina John, founding member, Medley toastmaster club, Chennai on the occasion of the 100th meeting of the Medley toastmasters club here on Saturday.With communication skills and leadership qualities being the main qualifications for any job in the present scenario, community clubs like Medley toastmasters club have been playing an important role in providing necessary training to people to meet the challenges in today’s world. “The sole aim of our club is to help the members develop communication and leadership skills which would boost their confidence level and help enhance their performance,” said Nagasamy, president, Medley toastmasters club, Chennai. The club is one of the 19 toastmaster member clubs in Chennai. It is a part of esteemed Toastmasters International, a not-for-profit educational organisation that operates clubs worldwide for the purpose of helping members improve their communication, public speaking and leadership skills. Through its thousands of member clubs, Toastmasters International offers a program of communication and leadership projects designed to help men and women learn the arts of speaking, listening, and thinking.  “These clubs are really helpful for people like me because my job requires me to make presentations and address huge gatherings. I lacked good communication skills before I joined this club, but after two years of practice in the club, there has been much progress in my performance”, said Sharma, a business executive.
