New Delhi: Samajwadi party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav has accused Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and other Congress leaders of attempting to finish his political career by framing him and his family in the disproportionate-asset case.
"Congress got the PIL filed through its worker against me and my family members to frame us in a disproportionate-asset case and wants to send us to jail to end our political career," he said.
Terming it as a face-saving exercise, the Chief Minister said the Congress has been "frustrated" by the massive development works undertaken and Uttar Pradesh's improved financial condition during the past three-years.
He alleged Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh and Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil were "conspiring to send him, his son Akhilesh and daughter-in-law to jail".
On the Supreme Court directive to the CBI, Yadav said the Court in this case has directed the agency to conduct a preliminary inquiry and give its report to the government.
Seeking people's support to defeat the "designs" of the Congress in the coming elections, he referred to the various welfare schemes of his government and promised to take them ahead if voted back to power.
