CHENNAI: A police constable was arrested allegedly in connection with the suicide of a man who killed his wife before hanging himself at Manali New Town on Monday. Police sources said that the father-in-law of the man, who committed suicide, had found a suicide note written by his son-in-law. Police said the arrested person, Dhanasekar (29), a police patrol vehicle driver for Manali New Town for close to a year, was having an illicit affair with Bhuvana alias Bhuvaneshwari, over which, she often had fights with her husband Ramu alias Ramamurthy, a car driver from 52nd block, Manali New Town. The constable also had financially helped Bhuvana as her family was facing issues of debt.Her father Ashokan had told police that he had found a suicide note written by Ramamurthy that said that Bhuvana and her husband often had fights over her affair with the constable, sources added. Police sources said the couple had one such fight on Friday night after which the man threw a grinding stone on his sleeping wife’s head and murdered her. Realising his act done in a fit of rage, Ramamurthy later hanged himself to death in his bedroom.Police, who registered a murder case against the deceased Ramamurthy for murdering his wife, also altered his suicide case to IPC sections 109 (punishment of abetment if the act abetted is committed in consequence and where no express provision is made for its punishment) and 306 (abetment of suicide). He was arrested and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.
