HYDERABAD: Does the cliché ‘beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder’ still stand good in today’s world where people are more open to altering their natural look? How can one define beauty? Is it skin deep or superficial? All this and more were discussed at an interactive session hosted by Young FICCI Ladies Organisation (YFLO) Hyderabad Chapter at The Park hotel on Wednesday. The discussion was preceded by insightful talks by Dr Jamuna Pai and Dr Srinivas Surapaneni on ‘Cosmetic Procedures, How far can one go?’ in a packed hall with women wanting to know more about various cosmetic procedures.  “How far can one go?’ This question is often asked because cosmetic surgery can sometimes turn out to be an addiction and one always wonders as to where should the line be drawn,” said Pai, who got into the aesthetic industry to pursue her lifelong passion for beauty. She further added, “There are various aspects to be kept in mind while going for a cosmetic surgery --- right from the reliability and experience of the doctor, to your own perseverance to maintain yourself after the surgery because surgery alone is not the answer to all your problems. Lifestyle makes a lot of difference.” According to Pai, inner health and emotional state are the most important aspects. “Even though cosmetic surgeries are helpful, a healthy diet and a good lifestyle are the pillars to maintain one’s body,” confessed Pai, who came to the city in 2000 and believes that the idea of a cosmetic surgery was taboo back then. “As as now, I don’t think it’s a taboo anymore. People are a lot more open to talk about their surgeries when compared to back when I started,” revealed the doctor. While Pai spoke about the transition of cosmetic surgery from being  a taboo to status symbol, Dr Srinivas Surapaneni threw light upon various types of cosmetic surgeries that are available today.   Post the talks, followed various questions from the audience, which clearly proved the point that people in the city are no more shying away from talking about cosmetic procedures and do not mind taking that extra mile and paying that extra buck to look ‘perfect’.
