NAMAKKAL: The anti-land grab special cell police on Thursday nabbed a couple on charges of land encroachment at Thondiapattipudur near here. According to K Parameshwaran, Deputy Superintendent of Police of the special cell, P Thangaprakasam and wife T Nithyakalyani were arrested after R Ramasamy, a resident of Bypass Road at Pallipalayam, lodged a complaint against them.The complaint said that Ramasamy purchased the land measuring about three acres for `3 lakh from Thangaprakasam in 1998 and converted them into plots for sale. Meanwhile, Nithyakalyani filed a suit in a court in Namakkal claiming that she too had rights over the land that was sold by her husband against her will. Though the court dismissed her contention, she along with Thangaprakasam prevented Ramasamy from entering into the land and threatened him of dire consequences, he said.Based on the complaint, a case was registered under Sections 341, 477 and 506 (ii) and investigations held. Later the couple was arrested on Thursday and produced before the Judicial Magistrate Court here. Both were remanded in judicial custody.
