Court orders probe against former CM

The Lokayukta court on Monday ordered a probe into the private complaint filed against former chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda over alleged illegal land acquisition at Bangalore North.

The court has ordered the police to submit a report by September 22.  A complaint was registered in the Lokayukta court against him by Bangalore- based journalist turned activist K G Nagalakshmi Bai. She accused the former chief minister of misusing powers during his tenure as Member of Parliament in 2008.

In her complaint, Bai alleged that 7.5 guntas of land was purchased by Gatty Sadananda Gowda, wife of Gowda from Ravi for Rs 4,70,000.  This building is said to have been constructed without land conversion from agriculture to residential purposes.

According to her note, the DVS family has built a bungalow spread over 8,167 sq ft in the said land in 2009. Bai said that this information was concealed in his annual property returns filed to the Election Commission. Also, the complainant alleged that as an MLA of Puttur (Udupi), Gowda had acquired 10 cents of G category land in 1998.
