THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:The CPM activity report at the state conference on Tuesday made a scathing attack on the self-promotional activities of party veteran V S Achuthanandan. The report pointed out that VS, during his tenure as Chief Minister, had failed to take his Cabinet colleagues from the party into confidence and most often belittled them in public. The report presented by state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan virtually turned out to be a trial of VS. The report further said that VS was a failure as Chief Minister. He tried to paint Pinarayi Vijayan as guilty in the Lavalin case. When the media asked him to make clear his stand on Pinarayi, VS did not show any interest in supporting him. His criticism of P K Sreemathi, Paloli Mohammed Kutty and other ministers of the Government had left the ministry in poor light. The report observed that VS as CM had distanced himself from the responsibility of having an electoral pact with the PDP. He used the opportunity to develop a cleft in the party and ditched the party’s interest. Official faction leaders participating in the discussion said that Achuthanandan had sided with the enemies of the party. There will be nine-and-a-half-hour discussion on the activity report which will be concluded by February 9.Meanwhile, taking a break from the past, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, chairman of the presidium controlling the conference, said that during the report period since the Kottayam conference held in 2008 the party could bring down the factional feuds.“The feuds reported during certain district conferences were not the prevalent ones. We had made efforts at self-criticism and corrections. The factional feuds which we had confronted in the Malappuram or Kottayam conferences had almost been solved.”
