MYSORE: If the Navarathri festival is a god-send for city-based hotels and restaurants due to the increased flow of tourists, it is also the time to taste the different varieties of Indian cuisine.From chaats to Bengali sweets, from the Mysore masala dosa to the Hyderabad Biryani, Kerala fish curries to traditional Coorgi dishes — all can be had under one roof at Dasara Food Mela which will be held at the CADA office premises. The Food mela that is a traditional crowd puller, will have more than fifty stalls offering both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes.Traditional chicken, mutton and fish dishes and desserts from the seven sister states, the north-east, too, will be available at competitive rates. Visitors to the mela can also have the sweet that shares its name with the city, the Mysorepak, the Nanjangud Rasabale (banana), Mysore betel leaves and the Erranagere brinjal.Dasara Food Mela president Rajendra said that they have elicited a good response from various organisations and hotels for participation in the food mela. He added that priority will be given for cleanliness and quality and the venue will be free from plastic.Cultural programmes from various states and on-the-spot ‘Mallige’ idly, ghee dosa and yelakki banana eating competitions for different age groups have been planned. Rajendra added that destitute women and women’s organisations will be offered the chance to operate food stalls.
