Day 3: HPCL withdraws from joining the truckers strike
The truckers are pressing for many demands including a bailout package for the industry.

New Delhi: Hindustan Petroleum officers have called off their plans to join in the strike. With both transporters and the government holding on to their stands, the truckers strike entered the third day on Wednesday.

This after the government threatened to take serious punitive measures under Maintaining Essential Supplies Act and National Security Act.

It seems HPCL Board has accepted the pay package announced by the government.

While the government has roped in Railways to maintain supply of essential commodities besides taking other steps, transporters are saying they will not give up until their demands are met.

"We are incurring heavy losses in our business everyday. We cannot run business, we will not return to work until our demands are met by the government," All India Motor Transport Congress President Charan Singh Lohara

Meanwhile, the nation-wide indefinite transporters strike enters day 3 on Wednesday. More than 50 lakh Lorries are off roads with talks making no headway between unions and the govt.

The truckers are pressing for many demands including a bailout package for the industry, lowering diesel prices by Rupees 10 per litre, the withdrawal of service tax on truckers, as well as permit-free transit across states.
