New Delhi: Supreme Court Justice A R Lakshmanan, who on Friday refused to hear a case involving Samajwadi Party MP Akhilesh Yadav, has refused to comment on why he wanted to withdraw.
The "chapter is closed," said Lakshmanan when reporters asked him why he broke down in court on Friday. "Don't ask me that question. Forget it. The chapter is closed once and for all. I don't want to say anything," he said on the sidelines of a function here when reporters asked about yesterday's incident.
Lakshmanan shocked the court an anonymous letter to him had cast aspersions on his integrity and he was withdrawing himself from hearing a review petition filed by Akhilesh, son of UP Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav.
The one page letter to Justice Lakshmanan was sent through fax from an unknown number on Friday morning. The fax was sent at his residence.
"In seventeen-and-a-half years of my judicial career, I have never gone through such a thing. I am very much pained. The contents of the letter are so heinous that my wife and I are very disturbed," he was quoted by news agency PTI as saying.
