New Delhi: Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Tuesday summoned St Stephen's principal Valson Thampu in a molestation case.

A research scholar had alleged that she was molested by an assistant professor in the college's Chemistry department. The accused Satish Kumar, who was supervising her PhD, had also threatened to pour sulphuric acid on her.

The complainant also alleged that Thampu had tried to shield Kumar and pressurised her to not treat the issue as that of sexual harassment.

In support of her argument, she had also made public a set of recordings which she claimed she had made during her meetings with the principal regarding the issue.

Scores of students, teachers and women rights activists protested against the principal demanding his resignation over the issue.

Thampu denied all the claims made by the student and demanded a CBI probe into the issue. "In view of the attempts by various agencies to spread confusion, compromise truth, mislead the public and scuttle justice, I, in my capacity as the Principal of St.Stephen's College request a full-fledged judicial inquiry under a sitting or retired Judge of the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India (in case of judicial inquiry) or CBI inquiry covering all aspects of the alleged sexual harassment matter," Thampu had said in a post on his Facebook page.
